How to reach your goals in life? When we make a goal, it is a decision between us and our future. Making the goal is half the battle. We have a direction we are aiming toward when we create a goal. It creates a link between our dream today and tomorrow’s reality.
We need a strategy to get there. Simply having a goal in mind, does not achieve our success. The goal without a plan is just a dream. To move beyond wishful thinking and to arrive at tangible results, requires a well-organized plan.
Developing our Goal with Confidence
It is admirable to have a goal. It shows that we want to accomplish something We may want to make financial goals or personal goals. We may want to have a healthier body and an active, healthy mind.
Developing a plan requires a positive attitude. We need to have confidence that yes, I can get there. I can reach my destination. Goals need to be challenging, yet within the realm of possibility.
Be Creative
It takes a creative approach. Sometimes it is not as simple as going from point A to point B. There may be twists and turns in the road, there may be stumbling stones in our path.
At times situations may seem impossible, but with some creative imagination, there is the solution right before our eyes. Focusing on our goal will encourage us to develop strategies to achieve it. If we use our imagination, our possibilities become limitless.
As in the old reader from childhood, you can be among those who climbed around the rock that was in the path or you can be the one who moves the rock out of the way. Moving the rock may take teamwork. That is where some creativity may come in, get others to work together with you to help you achieve your goals.
Take Chances
It may not seem simple to achieve the dream that you have. You need to take chances. Set standards with yourself, that you are trying to achieve. Over time, you will see how far you have come in reaching your goals. What are the chances you might have to take in order to reach your goal?
You learn so much by taking chances, whether they work out or not. Either way, you can grow from the experience and become stronger and smarter. The successful man is one who had the chance and took it.
It takes Focus
We need to be specific and detailed. There are so many bright lights around us, calling us to become sidetracked from what we want to achieve. It is so easy to get distracted, following those other voices that are calling. Having a detailed plan may keep us from being derailed from our own objectives.
Create a set of milestones as you move toward your goals. Having a calendar may help you set weekly, monthly and yearly goals. By breaking your goals down into smaller steps, it is easier to see the progress that you are making.
How to Reach Your Goals in Exercise
You need a plan in your exercise routine, but so many things are distractions. By keeping focused you can continue to pursue your goal. Once you do get involved in your routine, it is easier to maintain it. ‘A body in motion stays in motion’.
Smart Goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time-bound. If you are excited about your goals, you are going to be willing to put in the time to pursue them and keep track of your progress.
Work Hard – Put in the Effort
Goal setting is one of the best ways to increase productivity. To often time is wasted when we are not certain what the next step is that we should take. If we plan the next day’s activities before we go to bed the night before, we can get up and start right into our day’s agenda and prevent much lost time.
Goals give you something to focus on while you work. When goals are under your control, it gives you an added incentive.
You cannot control the outcome when you are competing with someone else. If you would make goals such as I will get a certain number of things done in a certain amount of time, it gives you more control over the outcome. It helps to make measurable, manageable goals.
Relax
Relax your way into your work. Yes, you must work diligently, but it should be done from a place of rest. So, take big breaths, and relax. Don’t get your muscles worked into knots. Keep that oxygen going to your muscles and your brain!
A little progress each day adds up to big results. Be gentle with yourself and look forward to the next day. Do not let worry control you, simply breathe. A goal with a plan becomes a success.
Enjoy Each Success
You have learned much as you go. Surround yourself with the success of yourself and others. You will become more confident and find more opportunities along the way. You will be inspired and inspire others.
Along the way, there are hills and valleys in the journey. There are curves here and there. You have learned how to reach your goals in life. Enjoy each success. Take time to celebrate. That will give you renewed vigor to stay true to your goals.
Smile – You Did It
Your smile has the power to light up a room without saying a word. Yes, your hard work has paid off. You reached your goal and can create your own sunshine.
You have accomplished what you set out to do. If you have the power to make someone happy, do it. Go confidently in the directions of your dreams. Happiness is the key to success. That smile looks good on you!
The Goal with a Plan Equals Success
It is your decision how to reach your goals in life. You can either maintain your level of accomplishment because that is where you want to stay, or you can continue your journey and set new goals to achieve more. The goal without a plan is just a dream. It’s up to you.

In the comments below, I would love to hear what your goals are and how you are going about to achieve them.
Hi, my mentors Brian Tracy and Grant Cardone both stress the importance of daily goal setting. Brian Tracy says 3 percent of people set goals and 97 percent of people work for them.
even knowing this I still can’t make myself do it. I even set a daily alarm( reminder)
I will follow this awesome advice and see more results.
Hi Jake, Thanks for your comment. We do need to keep the end goal in constant view. Each step will get us closer when our eye is on the goal. It often seems to depend on how badly we want something as to how much effort we give it. If you are setting your alarm, it shows that you do have a goal set! All the best, Carolyn
Thanks for this post on how to plan towards your goals, some years back when I was in the college I had a goal of becoming a millionaire which I couldn’t really work towards because I was just thinking on miracles, after my graduation, I waited for many years before I even start making my thousands not to talk of millions, so I knew I lacked proper planning, thanks for the points listed on this post it will help many
Thanks, Rose for your comment. It is great to have a plan. Sometimes it takes a while for us to get there, but if we never let go of our dream, we can still pursue it. I was reading Stephen Covey’s book. We need to keep the end goal in mind. Then even small steps will keep us going in the right direction. All the best. Carolyn
I found your article very useful and informative. It’s very important to plan ahead in order to achieve your goal. Decide what actions are required to reach your goals. The time you set to achieve your goals makes a big difference in the type of goal. There are four types of goal , short term goal , long term goal , stepping stone goal and lifetime goal .All types of goal requires a well organised plan. I agree that goal without a plan is just a dream.
Thanks for sharing this great article!
Hi S.J.
Thanks for your comment. I liked your analogy of the 4 types of goals. It is easiest to work toward the short-term goals and use stepping stone goals to get us to our long term goals. As we continue, we find that we have reached our lifetime goals!
To reach toward developing a healthy lifestyle we keep the short term goal ahead of us. Each day is a stepping stone to a long-term goal of a healthy life.
